We’ve arranged for the ceremony and the celebrations to happen in the same place: a beautiful villa in the hills above Reggello, about forty minutes from Florence.

Eating and drinkingA tavola
The aperitivo is served outside in the garden, across several stations: Italian cheeses and cured meats, crostini, and all the other small things a Tuscan aperitivo is built on. Alongside them, spritz, prosecco and a well-stocked drinks table.
L’aperitivo viene servito all’aperto in giardino, distribuito su diverse postazioni: formaggi e salumi italiani, crostini e tutte le altre piccole cose su cui si fonda un aperitivo toscano. Ad accompagnarli, spritz, prosecco e un banco bar ben fornito.
Dinner is traditional Italian and runs to several courses, served with red and white wines. We’re still working through the menu with the villa and will publish it here once it’s settled — in the meantime, do tell us about any allergies or dietary requirements in the RSVP and the kitchen will look after you.
La cena è italiana e tradizionale, articolata in più portate e accompagnata da vini rossi e bianchi. Stiamo ancora definendo il menù con la villa e lo pubblicheremo qui appena pronto: nel frattempo, segnalateci allergie o esigenze alimentari nell’RSVP e la cucina se ne prenderà cura.
Once the dancing starts, the bar takes over — drinks and cocktails, all on us. We can’t stock every bottle in Tuscany, but if there’s a cocktail you’d love to see on the list, tell us in the RSVP. If a few favourites keep coming up, we’ll make sure they’re there.

Getting to the villaCome arrivare alla villa
We’re laying on a free coach from central Florence and back again at the end of the night, with two return times so you can leave when it suits you. Please reserve your seats in the RSVP — it’s the only way we can book the right size of coach.

If you’d rather drive, hiring a car is easy and there’s parking at the villa. One thing to avoid: a taxi from Florence would be somewhere around €300 each way.

Two languages, one celebrationDue lingue, una sola festa
Denise’s mother tongue is English and Paolo’s is Italian, and there are people on both sides of the family who speak only one of the two. So the ceremony and our vows will be given in both languages — nobody should miss a word of the part that matters most.
La lingua madre di Denise è l’inglese, quella di Paolo l’italiano, e da entrambe le parti della famiglia c’è chi parla soltanto una delle due. Per questo la cerimonia e le nostre promesse saranno in entrambe le lingue: nessuno deve perdersi le parole che contano di più.
For the rest of the day, please don’t let a language in common — or the lack of one — hold you back. A smile, a raised glass and a hand offered on the dance floor need no translation at all. We rather suspect the best moments of the whole weekend will be the ones where nobody quite understands anybody, and everyone gets on beautifully regardless.

We have one small request, and it applies to the ceremony alone. We’d love you to be fully present with us rather than watching through a screen — so please keep phones and cameras away until we’re married. We have a photographer capturing every moment of it.
Abbiamo una piccola richiesta, e riguarda soltanto la cerimonia. Ci farebbe piacere avervi davvero con noi, e non dietro a uno schermo: vi chiediamo quindi di tenere telefoni e macchine fotografiche da parte finché non saremo sposati. Ci sarà un fotografo a immortalare ogni momento.
After that, please take as many photos as you like! The aperitivo, dinner, the speeches, the dancing — all of it. We’ll put up a QR code on the day so you can drop your pictures straight into a shared album, and we’ll add ours to the same place once the photographer’s are ready. Seeing the day through your eyes is half the fun.

Sweden has been an important part of Denise’s life, and since becoming a Swedish citizen she would love to bring one of its loveliest wedding traditions into our day.

At Swedish weddings, speeches aren’t reserved for the wedding party alone. Friends and family are just as welcome to share a few words — a toast, a favourite memory, a story, a song, or something entirely your own.

Speeches will take place after dinner, from around 8:30pm. If you’d like to take part, please let us know in the RSVP so we can include you in the running order. A few minutes is perfect, and there is of course no expectation at all to speak, but we would love if you did.

We’d love everyone to embrace the occasion and wear something that makes them feel elegant, confident and ready to celebrate. Think polished and festive rather than stiffly formal — your favourite suit, dress, jumpsuit, or whatever makes you feel your best.

One practical note: the ceremony and aperitivo take place outdoors, with areas of grass and gravel, so do bear that in mind when choosing your shoes. Block heels, wedges or dressy flats will be the most comfortable. Heel protectors will also be available for anyone who’d rather wear stilettos.

Weather on the dayIl tempo
May in Tuscany is usually lovely: daytime temperatures in the low to mid twenties, cooling down noticeably once the sun drops behind the hills, so do bring a jacket or a wrap for the evening. May can bring the occasional shower — it’s part of why the hills are so green at that time of year — but the villa has beautiful indoor spaces that can host every part of the day, so whatever the sky does, the celebration goes ahead exactly as planned.
Maggio in Toscana è di solito splendido: temperature diurne oltre i venti gradi, con serate decisamente più fresche quando il sole scende dietro le colline, quindi portate una giacca o uno scialle. Many of you live in or near Florence, but plenty of others will be travelling to be with us. We aren’t able to arrange accommodation for everyone, so guests will need to make their own bookings. Fortunately, Florence has plenty of choice, including hotels, B&Bs and apartments, many of which can be booked through either Airbnb or Booking.com.
Molti di voi vivono a Firenze o nei dintorni, ma tanti altri viaggeranno per essere con noi. Non possiamo organizzare l’alloggio per tutti, quindi ogni ospite dovrà prenotare per conto proprio. Everything on the wedding day itself happens at the villa, and on the Sunday we’re meeting friends and family for a relaxed brunch in Florence (at your own cost). So wherever you stay, you’ll want to be able to get into the city easily. There are also a small number of beds at the villa itself.

One thing to plan for: the coach runs from Florence for the wedding day itself, but there is no coach the following morning. If you’re staying at the villa you’ll need to arrange your own way there and back — hiring a car is much the simplest option. If several people would like one, we can look into a minibus, though that would be at your own cost.Una cosa da organizzare: il pullman è previsto da Firenze per il giorno del matrimonio, ma non c’è alcun pullman la mattina seguente. It will be at a restaurant in Florence rather than at the wedding venue, and it is completely optional: you order and pay for your own food and drinks.

If you try one thing, make it pappardelle al cinghiale — wide ribbons of fresh pasta with a slow-cooked wild boar ragù. It’s a favourite when our Irish guests visit and it’s on almost every trattoria menu. After that: bistecca alla fiorentina, ribollita, crostini toscani, schiacciata from a bakery, cantucci with vin santo, and lampredotto from a street cart if you’re feeling brave. Wander a few streets away from the Duomo before choosing a restaurant — the difference is remarkable.
Se provate una cosa sola, che sia la bistecca. Poi: bistecca alla fiorentina, ribollita, crostini toscani, la schiacciata del forno, cantucci e vin santo e, per i più coraggiosi, il lampredotto dal carretto. Allontanatevi di qualche via dal Duomo prima di scegliere un ristorante: la differenza è notevole.

Whatever else you do, walk along the Arno at dusk. The light on the river, the Duomo behind the rooftops, the bridges lighting up one by one — it costs nothing and it’s the thing we’d send you out to see.

The wedding is at Fattoria I Bonsi, Via I Bonsi 47, Reggello — in the hills of the Valdarno, about 40 minutes south-east of Florence.

Most guests will stay in Florence and travel out with us on the coach, so the journey below is really about getting yourself to Florence.

Florence (FLR) is the closest and by far the simplest — a tram takes you into the centre in about twenty minutes. Pisa (PSA) is just over an hour away and often has more choice of flights. Bologna, Milan and Rome are all further afield but well connected to Florence by fast train, so they’re worth checking if the fares are better.

Florence’s main station is Firenze Santa Maria Novella, right in the centre. Fast trains reach it from Rome in about an hour and a half, Milan in under two, and Bologna in forty minutes — so flying into one of those cities and taking the train is often cheaper than flying direct. Check times and fares with Trenitalia or Italo — both run the same routes, and Italo is often the better value.

I treni veloci arrivano da Roma in circa un’ora e mezza, da Milano in meno di due ore e da Bologna in quaranta minuti: volare su una di queste città e proseguire in treno spesso costa meno di un volo diretto. If you’d rather connect through a hub, KLM, Air France, Lufthansa, Swiss and Austrian all serve Florence airport via Amsterdam, Paris, Frankfurt, Munich, Zurich and Vienna.

You won’t need a car in Florence — the centre is walkable, and for anything further there are trams and buses run by Autolinee Toscane. A single ticket costs €2.30 and covers ninety minutes of travel; buy it before you board from a tabaccheria or the AT Bus app, and validate it when you get on, as fines for an unvalidated ticket are steep. The T2 tram runs from the airport to the centre in about twenty minutes. There are two taxi companies, Taxi4242 and TaxiMove, both with their own apps — and do note that Uber does not operate in Florence, so please don’t count on it.

As we’re bringing together two homes and two families, we already have more than enough furniture, kitchenware and household things — so we’ve decided not to create a traditional gift registry.

What time should I arrive?A che ora devo arrivare?
The ceremony starts at 4pm. If you’re on the coach it’s all taken care of; if you’re driving, aim to arrive by 3:30pm.

It’s free, but yes — please reserve your seats in the RSVP so we know what size of coach to book. There are two return times, around midnight and around 2am.

We’d strongly advise against it — a taxi from Florence is around €300 each way, and they don’t pass by out here late at night. Take the coach or hire a car.

Not if you’re staying in Florence and taking the coach. A car is useful if you’re staying at the villa, or exploring Tuscany afterwards.

How do the beds at the villa work?Come funzionano i posti letto in tenuta?
We take on seven whole farmhouse apartments and share them between guests — shared bathrooms, a mix of double and single beds, €120 per person including breakfast, for the wedding night only. Because they’re whole apartments, we can only allocate once all replies are in, so requesting a place isn’t a guarantee of one.
Prendiamo sette interi appartamenti del casale e li condividiamo tra gli invitati: bagni in comune, letti matrimoniali e singoli, €120 a persona con colazione, solo per la notte del matrimonio. We’ve decided to keep the day an adults-only celebration, with one or two exceptions we’ve already spoken about directly with the families concerned. We hope it gives parents a proper evening off. Your invitation lists everyone we’re able to welcome on the day — and we’re very grateful for your understanding.

If I stay at the villa, how do I get there and back?Se dormo in tenuta, come arrivo e come torno?
Under your own steam, we’re afraid. The coach runs from Florence on the wedding day only — there’s nothing laid on the next morning. A hire car is the simplest answer. If several of you would like one, tell us in the RSVP and we’ll look into a minibus, though it would be at your own cost.

The villa has beautiful indoor spaces able to host every part of the day, so the celebration goes ahead exactly as planned.

No. It’s a separate, optional gathering and everyone pays for their own meal. We’ll share the details nearer the time.
